Presbyterian Medical Group seeks a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our established Cardiothoracic team in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We're all about well-being, starting with yours. Practice Highlights:

  • Full scope of cardiothoracic surgery (clinic-pre and postop, consults, stepdown, ICU, OR first assist with EVH-Maquet)
  • Call includes OR, ICU/stepdown/outpatient calls, 50 - 60 hours/week
  • Team consists of 4 APCs, 2 CT surgeons
  • Growing thoracic practice (VATS, DaVinci robot) in addition to CABGs, valves, aortic cases, TAVR backup
  • Performs other functions as required

 

Responsibilities

Summary:

The Presbyterian Heart and Vascular Care team is looking for an experienced Advanced Practice Clinician with surgical experience in full-scope cardiothoracic practice to join our exceptional adult cardiothoracic service.  Our team offers a wide array of services dedicated to preventing, detecting and treating cardiovascular disease throughout New Mexico.  We provide care that is patient focused, compassionate and coordinated. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Begins patient rounds at 0700. Sees post-op patients in IRR, writes progress notes & transfers orders as needed. And enters orders in PEO
  • APC in operating room assists in having patient prepped, draped, and ready for surgical procedure.
  • Serves as Floor APC to start patient rounds on cardiac units. Removes pacer wires and chest tubes as needed.
  • Prepares post op patient for discharge (prescriptions, coumadin, teaching, post-surgical teaching) and dictates discharge summaries.
  • Checks all outstanding labs and CXR on in house patients.
  • Responsible for seeing post op patients in office.
  • Responsible for seeing pre op patients in office and ensuring H & Ps, data sheets, pre-op orders & labs completed.
  • Serves as on-call APC to check out with on-call surgeon at end of day. Checks pre-op patient labs & x-rays.
  • Serves as Weekend call APC to meet with on-call surgeon.
  • Performs other functions as required.

 

Credentials Required:

  • Prior CT, vascular, thoracic, congenital cardiac, or robotic experience is required.
  • For Nurse Practitioner - Masters degree in Nursing, New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license, federal and state DEA license and ANCC certification required.
  • For Physician Assistant - Baccalaureate prepared CAHEA Certified Physician Assistant or two (2) years working experience as a Certified Physician Assistant, and licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners required.
